Alberton dancers take centre stage

Alberton dance studio Reemicks from Brackenhurst was well represented at the Battle of the Giants dance competition from Friday, April 10 until Sunday, April 12 at Sun City.

The contest featured a special appearance by Miss South Africa 2015 Liesl Laurie. Battle of the Giants showcased various styles including hip hop, slow dance, electric boogie, freestyle, ballroom, disco and Latin American.

Several dancers from Alberton achieved at the national dance competition. Sibling team Justin (15) and Danielle Colyn (13) danced under the name Colyn Chaos. They competed in the hip hop duo category for the first time and came in sixth place out of 32 pairs.

Shernice van Wyk (18) and Nathan Hammond (17) tied for second place in the over 16 hip hop duo category.

Nathan Hammond placed third in the hip hop solo category for over 16.

Riaan van Wyk (13) placed fifth in the hip hop solo category for ages between 12 and 15 years.

In the group categories; Crewd by Choice took fourth place in the kiddie’s age group;

New Flame came in sixth place in the same group. Crewd by Choice placed sixth in the teenage group.

Reemicks dance studio characterised the event as “another amazing experience” and sent congratulations to everyone who participated.
