Alberton hosts Provincial Open
Alberton Sports Shooting Club recently hosted the Southern Gauteng Sports Shooting Association Provincial Open Championships at their range in Alrode.

ALBERTON – The event, which was shot over three days, attracted 98 entries, with some coming from as far afield as the Cape and Western Province regions.
Good weather prevailed on all three days, making for ideal shooting conditions. Load shedding was a concern, but fortunately this did not occur during the competition, with a generator having to be resorted to only during the medal award function
Twenty-two different events were shot, with a very high standard of shooting overall. Alberton took top honours in 15 events, with also numerous silver and bronze medals being won.
Of particular note was the performance of Andy Charalambous, a member of Alberton club. Andy shot a 299 out of 300 in the Police Pistol B event, with 22 shots in the x ring and 300 out of 300 in the Pocket Pistol event with 22 shots in the x ring. Ratification of this score as a new South African record must still be confirmed.
Participants complimented the organisation and the running of this championship by the Alberton Sports Shooting Club. All were unanimous that this shooting range ranks among the best in South Africa.
