Sneak peek at Mall of the South

The new shopping centre, Mall of the South, is well on its way to being completed and is still expected to open on September 24. Construction work is going well with all the retailers and project teams to ensure the center is opened on time.

JOHANNESBURG SOUTH – The main structure is complete and final work is being done on the parking deck and exit helix. Most of the ceilings are complete and the second floor glass balustrade is being installed this month. “Sections of the mall have already been tiled, including the restroom facilities, and the major nationals have started with their interior fit-out and this is going as per schedule. We are very pleased with the progress,” said Waldo Marcus, head of marketing at Zenprop.

Ninety-six per cent of the retail outlets are let and only a few select smaller premises still need to be filled.

Mall of the South has secured an international fashion retailer, which is very exciting, however, they are not allowed to disclose who the retailer is until later this year. Several fashion stores, new to the area and the mall will offer a comprehensive tenant mix to cater for all the shopping needs of the area.

Eating in style

“We have secured the following restaurants; Mytho’s, Life Grand Café, Fournos Bakery, Doppio Zero, Butchers Block and Roccomammas, and have ensured a strong convenience food offering at the mall with a mix of deli’s and fast food outlets. Also included in the restaurants mix are well-known brands like Spur, Ocean Basket, Wimpy and Mugg and Bean, all new generation stores.” The restaurant section will have the added benefit of all restaurants having sliding glass windows, making it light and airy during the summer. When the plans for the mall were first divulged, it was said that a taxi rank would probably be opposite the mall. “This matter has not been finalised but we will communicate the details once concluded,” said Marcus.
