Noisy generator keeps me up too

I live next door to the noisy neighbour from "No power and no sleep" and I think we can solve this problem.

ALBERTON – I, unfortunately, live next to the person with the noisy generator.

This generator is so large, it is on a trailer with a double set of wheels and looks like it would power a small factory.

I question why such a large and noisy generator is necessary in a residential area.

After seeing the ”No Power and no sleep” letter, I have done some research and will now start contacting the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department to lodge a Noise Disturbance complaint.

If all the other residents who are being disturbed by the noise from this generator do the same, perhaps the metro will enforce the Prohibition of Disturbing Noise in Part II: Noise Pollution Management, Section 8. This says that no person shall make, produce or cause a disturbing noise, or allow it to be made, produced or caused by any person, animal, machine, device or apparatus or any combination thereof.

This regulation is contained in the Gauteng Noise Control Regulations, 1999, under the Environment Conservation Act, 1989 (Act No. 73 of 1989), which is available on the Internet.

There are alternative solutions to electricity load shedding, such as the battery operated UPS systems which does not disturb neighbours in any way.

Gas stoves are readily available and food in refrigerators will easily last out the normal three-hour load shedding schedules that we have.

A battery operated lantern and good book is another solution, but I find I cannot relax and read when there is a continuous deafening roar from this generator during power failures.
