Protea hockey star does it again

Hot on the heels of her nomination as Ekurhuleni Sportswoman of the Year, Bernadette Coston from Verwoerd Park is still on the forefront of the hockey world.

ALBERTON – Bennie, as she is fondly known to friends and family, is a final year student at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and has just represented the SA Proteas hockey team at the world qualifying tournament in Spain.

The Proteas hockey team finished seventh overall and all hopes are now on the SA team to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Bernadette was also a member of the SA hockey team at the 2012 Olympic Games in London for which she was honoured as Ekurhuleni’s Sportswoman of the Year for 2012, a feat she repeated in 2013.

Since 2012 Bernadette has represented the country in the Investec Cup, the Champions Challenge tournament, several test series in Scotland, India and Italy and the Four Nation series in Germany in 2012.
