Free State defend u.21 SAB Championship title

Free State made tournament history by becoming the first team to defend the title.

SOUTH African Breweries (SAB) in partnership with the South African Football Association (SAFA) staged a successful seventh edition of the u.21 SAB National Championship.

The Soshanguve Giant Stadium played host to the grand finale of what has become South Africa’s largest development league.

The Free State side made tournament history by becoming the first team to successfully defend their title after beating Mpumalanga on penalties following an intense 1-1 draw.

Siphamandla Dhlamini, captain of the Mpumalanga team, was named as the top goal scorer and Player of the Tournament.

The week long tournament saw a number of talent scouts from the Premier Soccer League (PSL) attend matches in hopes of finding the country’s next star footballers.
