JOHANNESBURG – South Africa’s and Africa’s number one world boxing champion, Hekkie Budler, will be defending his world championship title against another SA boxer, Simphiwe Khonco, from the Eastern Cape.

The world championship title night, named “Uncivil War”, will be presented by Golden Gloves Promotions on Saturday, September 19, at 19:30, at Emperors Palace.

Budler will defend his WBA and IBO minimum-weight championship belts, in his first defence in SA since his return from Monte Carlo as champion.

For the first time in six fights, he will also face a local rival, after successfully defending his title against Nkosinathi Joyi in a classic encounter.

Khonco is ranked WBA number 10, while Budler will be defending his title for the 10th time in a row.

Also in action will be Southerners Jason Bateman and Paul Kamanga. These two will be the main undercard in a junior-welterweight bout.

Popular light-heavyweight, Ryno Liebenberg, will be back in business when he takes on the number four rated Makhosandile Zwengu for the vacant South African title.

Returning to South Africa is Kazakhstan junior-welterweight Roman Zhailauov, to fight Thompson Mokwana.

Also featuring at ”Uncivil War” is Irish champion Gary Sweeney, who trains out of the Colin Nathan’s camp.
