Accident witnesses asked to come forward

A road rage victim is appealing to the community to help her with information that will lead to finding the reported suspect.

RANDHART — A victim of road rage is looking for information that will help her trace a vehicle that reportedly hit her car and fled the scene in New Redruth.

Hilary Lavis said she was leaving the Alberton Lifestyle Centre in late August to pick up family.

“As I exited the centre the driver was behind me with his hand flat down on his hooter. I slowed down, hoping he would pass me.

“When he did not do so, I accelerated my speed to 60 in the right hand lane and then just before Redruth Street, he started to move to pass me on the left.”

Lavis said the nose of his black or blue looking BMW was slightly ahead of hers and he swung to the right aggressively.

“I saw his movement and also wrenched my wheel to the right, effectively moving slightly into the turning lane at the corner of Fore Street, but not enough to avoid him hitting me.”

She said she had two children and two other passengers in the car.

“I shudder to think what could have happened.”

Lavis said the driver then accelerated and fled. “I followed him to the traffic lights, realising that I could not confront him because of my passengers and not knowing his state of mind. This sort of driver is a hazard on the road and seriously needs to be apprehended.”

Lavis would appreciate any witnesses to contact her on 072 715 6823.
