SPRING is in bloom in Verwoerd Park and resident Henry Hartman’s pride and joy, a 36-year-old Erythrina lysistemon (coral tree) has flowered in glorious crimson beauty.
The deciduous, indigenous tree blooms for a limited time every year in spring, before the bright red flowers drop and are replaced by leaves and seed pods. Henry fondly recalled how he planted the tree many years ago from a seed that he obtained in Rustenburg.
