A-Square-Forklift Alberton ready for new season
A-Square-Forklift Alberton Rugby Club has already started with training for the 2016 season, even before the holiday season recess.
In a public statement to the Alberton Record and the rugby community, the chairman, Manie Reyneke, said: “With the club structures now in place, A-Square Forklift Alberton Rugby Club will concentrate on winning on the rugby field with the backing of the sponsors, and 30 players will be contracted for the new season”.
It further transpired that the leagues will start in April, with 11 teams in the top Pirates Grand Challenge League.
Police are the new addition and A-Square-Forklift Alberton are still in the top echelon.
After the first round, the teams will, as in last season, split into two competitions, where A-Square-Forklift Alberton reached the 2015 Bailey Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2007.
Furthermore, there will be no u.19 side in Golden Lions club rugby in the new season. There will only be two u.20 and u.21 competitions, in accordance with the structure change.
At the A-Square-Forklift Alberton facilities, at Alberton Stadium, the Cross-Fit training centre moved out and will probably be replaced by a player-rehabilitation centre for rugby injuries.
In his message to the players for the new season, Reyneke thanked the coaches who have committed themselves and said that A-Square Forklift needs more trophies than the single one of last season and that great efforts are required.
It is general knowledge that A-Square-Forklift Alberton Rugby Club are one of the few clubs that have truly committed Alberton Rugby Club contracts with players. This alone must serve as motivation for all committed players.
