125 people rescued after Hartbeespoort cableway experiences technical fault

No injuries were reported.

Around 125 people were rescued from a mountain after the Aerial Cableway in Hartbeespoort experienced a technical fault on Saturday afternoon, reports the Centurion Rekord.

General manager Ian Dunn said the cable carts experienced a mechanical breakdown while 125 customers were on the mountain enjoying lunch.

“Our policies are vital to ensure the safety of our customers.” The decision was made to stop the cable cars.

He said mountain rescue teams were called to transport people down the mountain.

“A helicopter is also busy airlifting people down the mountain.”

No injuries were reported.
