Alberton Cricket Club put up a strong fight

Alberton team showed spirit and determination throughout the season and we can be justifiably proud of them.

ALBERTON Cricket Club had a tough encounter against UJ in the Premier League on April 3 at the UJ sports grounds.

It was always going to be tough going against the students, but the Alberton side showed great character and put up a good fight. The only disappointing aspect was the fact that there were few spectators at the UJ field. The standard of cricket was very high though. Alberton batted first and put up a fight despite losing wickets at regular intervals. The opening pair were really cautious at first but the students’ bowling was very accurate.

Alberton eventually amassed 172 all out thanks to good contributions by Rowan Dryer (41) and Lance Rodriques (32).

The visitors found the going tough during the UJ batting innings and despite a good performance from Eben Koekemoer and Lance Rodriques, who took two wickets each, the hosts posted a massive 377/6 to win comfortably.

Nevertheless the Alberton team showed spirit and determination throughout the season and we can be justifiably proud of them.

Well done Alberton!
