TRISTAN Quinn, a star athlete from Alberton High, is one to look out for in the future.
Tristan was born on August 24, 1998 and started his school career at Eden Park Primary School in its home town of Eden Park..
“We saw his potential the first time when the school had their inter-house athletics. He did great, so we decided to enrol him at Laerskool Generaal Alberts in Alberton,” recalls Tristan’s mother, Beverley Abrahams.
The young athlete enjoyed playing rugby at school but he chose instead to focus on his athletics.
Tristan was selected twice at primary school level to go to the South African School Athletics Championships, but picked up a groin injury in Grade Seven, which continued to bother him until the end of Grade Nine and could not do any athletics until last year when he joined the Diamond Athletics Academy under coaches Maria and John Diamond.
“They have a great influence in Tristan’s athletics life and believes in his abilities,” says Beverley.
His goal this year was to go to the SASA National Championships again and achieved that goal when he was selected to go to Bloemfontein, but sadly injured himself running the 100 meters. In spite of the injury, he forced himself to do the relay because he didn’t want to disappoint his teammates and they took the silver medal in that event.
Tristan is in Grade 12 at Alberton High School, and is also a prefect at the school as he believes that his schoolwork is just as important as his athletics.
He wants to go to university and pursue a career in engineering next year while still improving on his athletics.
“I just always thank God for always making me stronger and challenging me to keep doing better and getting faster. I most of all thank Him for giving me this amazing talent. I will get better and I will definitely come back stronger than ever before,” says Tristan.
