Alert reader assists in tracing stolen machine

I will be forever thankful to the kind and alert resident who informed the police and I about the whereabouts of the stolen ice cream machine.

THANK you Alberton RECORD for publishing an article about the burglary of my stall on May 4. A kind resident read the article and informed me about a person who had sold an ice cream machine, similar to mine, in Thokoza.

Accompanied by the police, we found the machine in the dining room of a house in Thinthwa, Thokoza.

A man in Hudson Street told the police and I, two men came to him looking for transport to Alberton to sell an ice cream machine.

The transporter further explained that he asked them where they had obtained the machine from, one of the men said his cousin from Durban sent him the machine two years ago and he now wants to sell it. No shop wanted to buy the machine but then an employee at one shop bought the machine and the transporter delivered it to Thokoza.

The man who transported the machine took the police to the house in Riemvasmaak Extension Five where a suspect was found and he again took them to the house in Thokoza.

The suspect told the police he only had the ice cream machine and the rest of the loot from my stall was with his accomplice who had fled to Durban.

Since the burglary, I started doing my own investigation and visited every shop and container shop in Eden Park, Palmridge and its extensions, Greenfields and Phola Park.

The arrested suspect, who pointed out the house in Thokoza, is the man I saw when we reviewed the CCTV footage.

I will be forever thankful to the kind and alert resident who informed the police and I after reading the story in the RECORD.

The second suspect is still on the run and police are still investigating and we are still looking for a chips frying pan, popcorn machine, pots and a two-plate stove.
