Hospital responds to complaint

These types of things seem to be happening all the time, and it is, quite frankly, shocking.

I would like to complain about a male nurse who assaulted my elderly mother recently.

My mom’s arm was badly hurt by one of the male nurses at Netcare Mulbarton Hospital in Alberton. I have spoken to the management at the hospital and they have said that they will investigate.

These types of things seem to be happening all the time, and it is, quite frankly, shocking. The staff are supposed to be carers who look after the sick and vulnerable, not abusers.

A distraught son

“Netcare Mulbarton Hospital’s management have investigated the allegations of an incident involving one of its nurses, raised by the family of an elderly patient.

“We place the provision of care, the maintaining of dignity and wellbeing of our patients at the heart of everything we do, and due to the serious nature of the allegations, we immediately launched a full investigation.

“Our investigation has indicated that the injury which the elderly patient sustained to her hand was a result of her accidentally hitting the hand against the side of a food trolley.

“We sincerely regret that the patient experienced this unfortunate incident and wish her a speedy recovery,” said Nellie Koen, general manager at the Netcare Mulbarton Hospital.
