THE RECORD recently published a letter from a concerned resident who was asking the public for advice or their experiences with prepaid electricity meters.
Here is Petrus Terblans’s answer:
It depends where you are buying your prepaid electricity from; I assume that you buy it from Ekurhuleni and not Eskom?
If you buy R400 worth of prepaid electricity, which includes R49.12 VAT for instance – the net amount of R350.88 buys you 229 kwh (units). The unit therefore, costs you R1.74672 per unit (VAT inclusive).
There is much equipment in a household that uses electricity. All of these except the geyser, will not use electricity when you are on holiday. Therefore it is wise to switch your geyser off, while you are on holiday.
