Powerless against Eskom and Ekurhuleni

I work for a company in Alberton North – Machine Moving & Rigging – and we too, have been affected by power outages.

This drastically affects our business as, when the power is out, our phones are off. We rely on phone calls and sending quotes to bring in work and like Gerhard Louw (author of previous letter to RECORD), we are in an extremely competitive line of business. If we can’t be reached, our customers will simply look elsewhere. This is becoming a huge problem and I truly hope that now the media has become involved, something will be done by the municipality.

Previous official comments from Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality blame the regular cable theft and vandalism of infrastructure, as well as updating or expanding of infrastructure, for growing demand – and the need for maintenance of these systems.

Further requests for comment have been met with no response.
