Referring to your article from November 2, entitled “Pavement damaged by money trucks”, I would like to thank you for bringing this issue to our attention and provide you with additional insight and an update on this matter.
SBV Services is one of the firms servicing this area, and our drivers have been in discussions with the centre management to agree on a suitable parking plan for our cash-in-transit vans, as we agree that damage to the pavements is unacceptable.
The correct protocol that should have been followed, and which will be followed in future, is for a driver to circulate the area until an appropriate parking space becomes available.
However, as part of our extremely serious stance on civilian safety, one of the most important aspects of our security protocol is for our security teams to be in and out as quickly as possible, using the shortest route between the cash and our vehicle.
We would therefore like to appeal to the public to refrain from parking in designated delivery bays as private vehicles occupying these demarcated parking areas become a security risk when they prohibit cash-in-transit vehicles from completing their task as quickly as possible.
Yours in security, Mark Barrett, Managing Director for SBV Services (Pty) Ltd.
