ALBERTON High School’s mountain biking team took part in the 33rd Carnival City Macsteel National Classic over the weekend of November 5 and 6.

The event is organised annually by the Germiston Rotary Club and Wheelers, with all the proceeds donated to charities in the Alberton and Germiston area – and also to the development of amateur cycling.

Many cyclists took the opportunity to finalise their training for the upcoming 94.7 cycle challenge.

The route offered various distances, ranging from 12 to 60 kilometres. The Alberton High mountain biking team grabbed the chance to contest the 30 kilometre fun ride, that started from Carnival City at 07:35. There were 124 entrants and the winner finished in an amazing time of one hour and five minutes. The Alberton High team placed well, with four riders participating and times ranging from one hour, 37 minutes to one hour, 58 minutes.
