Spar is but one tenant at complex

My aim with the response is to send the message: 'before you comment on someone else's house, clean yours.'

I would like to respond to the letter dated December 13, 2016, published in the Alberton RECORD.

I agree that the smell, water that has been running out of an overflow pipe for months and vermin attracted by the waste skips of the Second Avenue shopping complex, is problematic.

However on previous occasions that I personally have contacted the Centre Management and management of the Spar, they have been nothing but happy to assist and have rectified the issues at hand speedily. The matters at hand were: a skip that had been set alight – and the stacking of pallets of used cardboard boxes on the boundary wall, destined for recycling. The Spar is also in the process of building and upgrading, so there will be rubble etc on the premises. I would suggest contacting them before embarking on a media crusade.

Contacting the Spar head office is a bit biased, as Spar is not the only tenant in the centre that makes use of the waste skips – as others also make use of the facility.

I would also like to raise a second matter. It’s my understanding that if you want to keep vermin and pests to a minimum, one shouldn’t encourage allowing vermin access to foodstuffs – as is the case at one of the complexes the lady was referring to in the letter (and where I live). This has been brought to the attention of trustees before and is sadly still an ongoing practice by some. If I’m not mistaken, it’s clearly stated in the complex’s rules that such is not permitted – are the rules only there for some, or are they there for all to abide by?

My aim with the response is, to send the message: ‘before you comment on someone else’s house, clean yours.’

RECORD would like to apologise for a mistake in the initial letter referred to here, as the shopping centre in question was confused with another, that previously had similar issues.
