Former Marais Viljoen learner breaks SA deadlift record

Sheldon was a first team cricket player at Marais Viljoen, but gave it up after matriculating to concentrate on body building/weight lifting.

SHELDON Donnelly, an Aspen Hills resident who matriculated from Marais Viljoen High School in 2015, set a new SA deadlift record, recently.

On February 25, Sheldon competed in his first South African Loglift and Deadlift Championship, held at the Keg and Eagle, at Retail Crossing Shopping Centre, in Roodepoort. With a body weight of 88.7kg, Sheldon set a new SA deadlift record of 280kg in the u.90kg division, winning his category with a combined weight of 370kg and came third overall against the heavier divisions with a weight to body ration of 4.3.

Sheldon was a first team cricket player at Marais Viljoen, but gave it up after matriculating to concentrate on body building/weight lifting.

He spends many hours in the gym and his next target is to qualify for the Arnold Schwarzenegger Classic Africa Strong Man Competition.
