Gauteng champs produce winners

The Gauteng Secondary school championship was attended by all the winners of the district athletes.

THE Gauteng Secondary Schools Athletics Championships produced some outstanding performances and various athletes are now eligible to be selected for the province to compete at the nationals.

Athletes from the various districts in the Gauteng area, such as Johannesburg South and Ekurhuleni, competed in the championships, which was held over two days, Friday March 10 and Saturday March 11.

Athletes who have made the qualification times and distances in the respective events will be eligible for selection to represent Gauteng at the South African Schools Athletics High School Track and Field Championships, which will be held from Wednesday March 29 to Saturday April 1 in KwaZulu-Natal. All nine provinces will compete at the nationals.

SHOT OF THE DAY: Kayle Blignaut from District 9 had a haul of 18.20m in the shot put for boys u.19 to better the old record of 17.01m.
