I SAW your article about the Home Affairs in Alberton and I too am battling with them.
Last year we obtained a birth certificate for our foster son – he is now seven and this was his first birth certificate as his mother had never registered his birth.
He was born in Hillbrow Hospital. The application was dealt with in 10 days and I thought what excellent service it was. Mind you, this was the third visit and I’d previously queued for a total of about seven hours on two occasions. I was told to wait two weeks and apply for his unabridged certificate.
His (our foster son) parents are unknown as he was abandoned and although I applied, gave all the relevant information, etc, including a letter from Child Welfare, they are refusing to issue as they “can’t trace the parents”.
I go in every few months to enquire and even completed a second application for the certificate, but I am still waiting. Adverts have been placed trying to trace his parents (whose names are known) but to no avail.
I am not sure whether this is just an Alberton Home Affairs issue or whether it’s down to Pretoria, which the manager implied.

RECORD attempted to contact the Alberton Home Affairs, but again, as every attempt before, it was in vain.
