Fans go bananas for Rihanna

Iinternational Pop star, record top selling digital artist of all time Rihanna, graced the FNB Stadium in the south of Johannesburg as part of her Diamonds World Tour on October 13.

NASREC – The Diamonds World Tour concert which was sold out just weeks after tickets went on sale had the soccer arena buzzing with die-hard fans and music lovers.

Having sold over 41 million albums worldwide and won six Grammy awards, fans sang along to tunes that included tracks from her 7th studio album, ‘Unapologetic’.

Opening for the ‘Unapologetic’ singer was the Miami based DJ duo GTA that had the audience dancing the night away before the pop star made her way to the stage. Although hours passed between the two performances, the audience screamed in excitement as soon as RiRi’s show began.

Even though not all attendees were completely pleased about her performance with her fifteen dancers, some were unhappy about the one costume change that RiRi managed to make during the show that has previously been described as “Majestic & Dazzling” by critics. They stated that they felt short-changed by the mega star who is known for putting on raunchy shows, also for her scantily clad ensembles, the Johannesburg audience got none of that.

“I felt like she didn’t make much of an effort in putting on a great show for us because she normally does more for her American audiences,” said an unsatisfied fan. “She also didn’t perform Pon de Replay the track that launched her into super stardom.”

“I bought the deluxe Unapologetic CD but she didn’t even perform more than five of the songs on the disk,” said another self-confessed number one Rihanna fan.

One fact that could not be denied by either fan was that RiRi had the Johannesburg audience at her mercy from the beginning to the end of the show that she ended with a firm favourite, Diamonds. Other songs performed were Love Song, Man down, Talk that Talk, Stay and many more hit tracks.

The Diamonds World tour is set to continue through October and November in other countries including South East Asia, Australia, New Zealand, United Arab Emirates, Israel, the Dominican Republic, Peurto Rico as well as in her home town of Barbados.
