Many spiritual leaders claim they pray daily for the youth who are on a path of self-destruction by giving their lives over to this drug called nyaope.
The drug is made of all sorts of poisonous stuff including rat poison, anti-retroviral drugs, heroin and other concoctions mixed with dagga.
Most of the nyaope addicts are boys who grew up without a father and in houses where the mother is the breadwinner and is at work. The boys take advantage of their mothers’ absence. Most of them are out of school and seem to be hooked on the drug as a way to pass time.
Although it is not proven fact, the saying that suggests every boy needs a father figure in his life, could just be true.
Many single mothers are facing the battle of accommodating a nyaope addicted son who has turned to crime and is stealing valuables from the home to feed his habit that costs about R30 per dose. In these homes there are no father figures who could have a ‘man-to-man talk’ with their addicted sons.
It would be great if fathers of the area could bring their part to help solve this epidemic. They should come together and present a ‘Man-to-Man’ seminar or programme to the youth and drug addicts.
Such talks and the opportunity to listen to a father figure could perhaps save our dying youth.
