Eisteddfod glory for Alberton siblings

There was a rare achievement of a brother and sister both placing in their respective poetry sections.

THIS year’s Alberton Eisteddfod section winners gala evening was held at the Alberton Christian Academy on September 19.

It was a fantastic evening at a lovely venue with Wilma Barkhuizen and her team pulling out all the stops as usual.

There was a rare achievement of a brother and sister both placing in their respective poetry sections. Colby Fry, a Grade Three learner at Brackenhurst Primary School, placed second in the Grade One to Three English poetry section and his sister, Skyla Fry, a Grade Five learner also at Brackenhurst Primary School, placed third in the Grade Four to Five English poetry section.

It is not often that you get a brother and sister combo at section winner’s evening as girls usually dominate the awards evening. Both Colby and Skyla attributed their success to the wonderful help of their drama teacher, Sally Deere-Jones from Sally’s Drama Studio. They have also had enormous support from Brackenhurst Primary School and Mr Mostert in particular. Both Colby and Skyla are looking forward to the 2018 Alberton Eisteddfod to build on their achievements.
