JKA South takes top honours
JKA South Bassonia once again did their instructors proud.
THE second Karate Syndicate team event championships were recently held and it was a highly successful and enjoyable event.
JKA South Bassonia once again did their instructors proud bringing home over 30 medals, 17 of which were gold. In addition to the high medal count, the senior team also duplicated last year’s senior division results by winning both the unison kata and the mixed team kumite, three men and two women in a team.
It was an exciting day with drama in the senior elite unison kata and the senior elite mixed team kumite event being resolved with a sudden death match. The two teams that tied for first place had to put up one fighter each to break the tie and the nail-biting final ended with a 2-1 score.
Senior Instructors Bruce Smith (7th Dan), Gert Aucamp (6th Dan) and Karyn Smith (5th Dan) were justifiably proud of their members when they said: “The team event champs were a resounding success. The event has grown since the first one last year and we can’t wait for an even bigger and better event next year.”
