As I attempt to cut back on my food expenses, I’m looking for more and more special prices weekly. I think way back most families shopped monthly for their groceries but actually, now it pays to shop weekly, especially if you watch the newspaper inserts and look out for “specials”.
Checkers and Pick n Pay rule
You all know how much I enjoy shopping at Woolworths, and I still do but shopping at my local Checkers in Glenvista Shopping Centre is a real pleasure, with the all new-look store and friendly staff. I do occasionally pop into Pick n Pay at Panorama Shopping Centre and they too have some great special prices.
If you are in Checkers look out for the yellow 50 per cent off stickers. I admit some of the packets of chopped veggies do look “their age” but the pieces of pumpkin and hubbard squash keep easily a few more days refrigerated. Last week I bought six items which I paid half price for and saved about R70. I see the reduced priced items are now on the shelves from as early as the shop opening, so you no longer have to go later on in the afternoon.
Still, I love Woolworths, especially the Bassonia food store at Comaro View. And, guess what, they also have some super specials.
All you have to do is keep your eyes open and take advantage of the specials, the buy three pay for two items, Clicks has some great ones and buy those offers in bulk and split between two or three of you. Times are tough, so shop wisely!
Coats are “in”
Usually, at this time of the year when I’m looking for winter clothing, I battle to find beautiful coats. Jackets, yes, but not full-length coats. Well, let me tell you, this year I’ve already seen about six I’d love to buy. Okay, they are a bit pricey but oh so gorgeous. The best I’ve seen is at Woolworths, wraparounds, with deep collars and only one button or fastener. Really glam, in fact, so glam, you won’t want to take your coat off! I don’t enjoy the cold weather but this year I’m kind of saying “bring it on,” just so I can wear my new coat. Take a look before all the best disappear from the stores.
Mom is best
Yes, I’m browsing for gifts for Mother’s Day and I’ve seen some pretty nifty ideas. I’ll share some with you next week.
That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop!
