SAB on the ball as far as soccer is concerned

Aspiring match officials from across South Africa at the skills camp.

Thirty aspiring match officials from across South Africa participated in the skills camp that was held at the University of Pretoria’s High-Performance Centre.

The South African Breweries (SAB) reiterated its commitment to developing grassroots football in South Africa and honoured the football match officials who took part in the Match Officials’ Skills Camp over the past few weeks.

With knowledgeable instructors such as Enoch Molefe, Didiza Ngutshana and Deidre Zealand, the SAB camp aims to provide participants with invaluable skills and a profound understanding of the rules of the game.

The camp entails an intense week of both mental and physical activities to equip participants with the necessary skills to perform at their optimum level.

“Through the SAB League Skills Camps, we are demonstrating our full commitment to the development of football in South Africa from a grassroots level. Our key objective for the SAB League is to develop South African football holistically, and this necessitates opportunities like these where we upskill and empower all role-players,” said Kalashni Narainsamy, the Better World project manager of SAB and AB InBev Africa.

SAFA’s chief executive officer Dennis Mumble described how the SAB League Skills Camp addressed the lack of skills within communities. “Through the SAB League Skills Camp, we have identified ways in which we can improve lives by providing individuals with the right skills to empower not only themselves but their communities too.

“Football is evolving globally, and we are no longer focused solely on unearthing players. Match officials play an integral role in football and the earlier we develop them at a grassroots level, the more knowledgeable they will be as professionals,” said Mumble.
