The world tuned in on June 14 as Russia kicked off the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Moscow. The hosts walked away with a 5 – 0 win against Saudi Arabia, setting the bar for the rest of the tournament and exciting the 20 000 fans from around the world that have travelled to Russia to watch and experience the World Cup.

Those that weren’t able to fly to the world’s largest nation, chimed in on social media.

The data indicates that the world is speaking about how this year’s FIFA World Cup is “the year of the underdog” – Meltwater analysed the mentions to find out more.
