A new pavement in Verwoerdpark but no new tar road?

“It seems as if taxpayers’ money is being wasted unnecessarily.”

As a resident in the area of Verwoerdpark, I would like someone to please explain the purpose of the two strips of sidewalk paving bordering on Braun Road between Drysdale Avenue and Mariner Street?

The paving is on one side of the road only. It took a number of weeks, many workers and equipment that removed rocks and dug trenches to complete this new paving.

Looking at the sidewalk surrounding the Engen garage (close to the 2nd Avenue Shopping Centre), surely that should rather have received priority if this type of paving is considered necessary in the area?

Instead of a new sidewalk paving, this section of Braun Road could much rather have been re-tarred to take care of the potholes that keep occurring. Again, it seems as if taxpayers’ money is being wasted unnecessarily.

EMM was contacted for comment, but the RECORD did not receive any at the time of going to press.

IS IT PRIORITY?: The resident believes that this new sidewalk is not as high a priority as the tar road next to it, on which potholes constantly occur.
