Going potty and thinking about Christmas

I believe many people want to get rid Syringa trees since they have been declared a pest, but I would so miss them when September comes around.

September is a wonderful month, full of all things new welcoming spring. Whenever I think of September I conjure up images of blossom trees and the great Syringa tree, with its heady fragrance. I believe many people want to get rid of Syringa trees since they have been declared a pest, but I would so miss them when September comes around.

Pottering in the garden must be one of my favourite outdoor pastimes, and I say pottering because garden pots make up most of our garden. The only downfall is when it’s hot; the pots need watering at least once a day, often more, especially the terracotta pots which bake in the sun and then bake the poor plant. Remember summer watering times are before 6am and after 6pm for hosepipes.

October has arrived

Too soon, that’s for sure, and with only 12 weeks to Christmas, I’m sure lots of festive goodies will soon be making an appearance on the shelves. I’ve actually not spotted any Christmas buys yet but I have been looking for some good pressie ideas, bearing in mind the economy. I’ll be baking my Christmas cake this weekend, so I can give it lots of doses of weekly brandy, which will the make the cake boozy and very moist, Yummy.

What’s new?

Toss a salad

Jazz up salad greens (lettuce, rocket and baby spinach) by adding a delicious combination of baby tomatoes, Kalamata olives, feta cheese, thinly sliced red onion, strawberries quartered and crispy bacon pieces. Make a salad dressing with virgin olive oil, red wine vinegar, a sprinkle of salt and pepper and whisk all together, serving separately in a small jug, so it won’t make any leftover salad limp. This salad combination is so delicious though I doubt there being any left.

That’s it for this week. Shop till you drop.
