It was once again a very good year for sport in Alberton, with some of the top highlights reflected in pictures.
The best schools cricket team of the year was without doubt Marais Viljoen’s first team of the North Vaal Tournament and overall winners of the Gunn & Moore trophy for all Northern Unions schools for the first time since the beginning in 1923.

Gymnasts from clubs in Alberton and surrounding areas dominated Alberton Record’s sport pages in the past year with their excellent achievements.

Emperors Palace once again made boxing dreams come true and Ryno Liebenberg planted a sensational knockout one minute 58 seconds within the first round against Gabriel Ramirez from Argentina in the Triple Thunder tournament at Emperors Palace.

Alberton’s Olympic hockey star Linda Coston, walked away with Ekurhuleni’s highest women’s sport award; sportswoman of the year.
