As a frequent road user, I would like to express my disappointment over the current state of the truck arrester bed on the left-hand side of Voortrekker Road (towards Alberton).
From what I’ve seen recently, its condition looks very bad and neglected. There are so many weeds growing through this arrester bed paving that it’s barely visible. It doesn’t seem as if it’s being maintained. If this is the case, then why was it built in the first place?
This arrester bed is there to be visible for truck drivers, to offer them a safe solution for when their brakes fail. But, it’s barely visible and there are big rocks strewn across it, making it dangerous for vehicles that have to use it.
I’m not sure whether the EMPD or the construction company that built this arrester bed is responsible for its maintenance, but whoever is should be held responsible and start maintaining this area as regularly as needed, for the sake of all nearby road users’ safety.

Concerned Alberton motorist
The RECORD contacted the EMPD for comment, but they referred the RECORD to the EMM’s Roads Department. The Roads Department did not deliver comment in time for publishing.
