SPCA are blessed this festive season

Alberton SPCA sends a huge thank you to Santa Clause for Paws who visited recently and donated food, toys and blankets – the amount was overwhelming.

ALBERTON – In addition, we received a generous cash donation from Marius Bezuidenhout and Yvettearts, an artist and her friends who also donated a huge amount of dog and cat food. Again we were totally overwhelmed by people’s kindness.

These kind gifts enable us to continue our mission, which is preventing cruelty to all animals. We receive no government funding and therefore rely on the goodwill of the community. Thank you to everyone who donates to us – it is very much appreciated. Sometimes the staff are busy and don’t always manage to thank people, so please write your details in our Donation Book and we can ensure you receive a thank you letter.

The stands at BrackenCity and Alberton City are proving popular. We are selling our CD desk calendar at a bargain price of R40, plus cards, candles, gift bags, jewellery, dog and cat collars, leads, etc. so please come and have a look and buy. The Tree of Light outside Pick n Pay at BrackenCity is filling up and we’ve already got over 700 lights and hope to get to 1000 before Christmas. Please support this initiative at R10 per light. The Alberton City stand is alongside Father Christmas (and the e-toll shop) and Father Christmas is always happy to say hello!

As always, Christmas is a very busy time for us and we use an enormous amount of food during this period. Please can you help out by donating either cat or dog food – if the latter we especially need small dog chunks and puppy food – you can drop it off at Alberton SPCA in Lincoln Road or at either of the two stands. Thank you.

Once again we need carpets for our kennels. If you have any carpets that are in reasonable condition, please let us know. We do not accept underfelt as the dogs just chew through it.

A lot of animals will sadly spend Christmas at the SPCA and we are once again giving them a Christmas lunch. The cats will be served grilled chicken or tuna followed by plain probiotic yogurt for dessert, whereas the dog’s lunch consists of chicken, chicken livers, veggies and rice, with a ‘chocolate’ dog biscuit for dessert. The cost is R60 per meal for either a dog or a cat. Already we’ve had some wonderful donations and thanks go to The Reading Tree Book Club for their donation of R900 and Linda Downie for her R520 donation. We’ve also had donations from others and we are very grateful, so thank you to all who have donated money for the lunches so far. Won’t you help feed an animal this Christmas? If you want to pay directly into our bank account, the details are as follows:

SPCA Alberton Cheque Account / First National Bank, BrackenCity / Account No: 623 5808 8394 Branch Code: 252 242. Please mark your deposit ‘Dog or Cat C meal’ and email albertonspca@yahoo.co.za with confirmation. Alternatively, either donate at the SPCA in Lincoln Road or at either of the two stands mentioned above.

Santa is sending out letters and for R10 you can have a letter emailed to your child and support the SPCA at the same time. The bank details are the same and you need to mark your deposit ‘Santa Letter’ and email proof of payment, child’s name and pet’s name to albertonspca@yahoo.co.za.

Please remember a pet is for life and not just for Christmas, so please don’t buy puppies or kittens as gifts. Adopt, don’t shop!

The Committee and Staff at Alberton SPCA would like to thank everyone for their support, kindness and generosity during the past year. We could not do this without you and the paw, or rather paws, salute you! We wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
