Improvement of rugby in Alberton
With the visitors putting on the pressure right from the word go, Alberton found it difficult to find their rhythm.

A SQUARE Forklift Alberton hosted Pirates from Greenside on Friday night and the home side had a mixed bag on the night.
The home first side seemed to struggle against an abrasive Pirates. The visitors scored shortly after the start making it extremely difficult for the locals to find their rhythm. This was to be the pattern for all three senior sides.
The juniors, however, enjoyed different results – a testament that rugby in Alberton is on the rise.
The u-21s opened the evening with a 40-14 victory and set the platform for the seniors who could not replicate the juniors’ successes.
Not to be outdone, the u-19s, who had a close victory against Pirates in the pre-season fixture, turned on the heat to ensure they did not have to repeat the pre-season last grasp victory. The final score was 24-7 which was an excellent result, and clearly a sign of good progression for the youngsters.
The second and third teams also narrowed the gap between themselves and Pirates from the pre-season fixture. However, it was not the case for the first team.
On Friday, May 31, Alberton will travel to Maraisburg to take on Raiders Rugby Club. The next home fixture will be on June 13 against Potchefstroom-Pukke.
