GDE saddened by the passing of two learners

The GDE sends their condolences to the family who lost their dear children.

The department has on January 27 sadly received reports of an incident in which two learners from Nqubela Primary School in Thokoza lost their lives and two others are in a critical condition in hospital.

From the reports we have, these learners were waiting for a bus to transport them to school when two cars collided and bumped into them.

The incident is currently a subject of investigation and we are awaiting a full report on what exactly happened. We have dispatched a team of officials to the school affected to provide counselling to learners and educators.

We would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family of the learners who passed away, educators and fellow learners. We also wish the two learners in hospital a speedy recovery.

For more information contact the Gauteng Department of Education’s spokesperson, Phumla Sekhonyane on 071 860 4496 or 011 355 1530.
