ALBERTON – I am a 77-year-old pensioner and don’t possess a computer, ours was taken during an intrusion and armed robbery at our home last Women’s Day together with my wife’s wedding ring, some money, a couple of firearms, cellphones and I-pad and the computer. I don’t expect you to donate a unit because you will be inundated with people in the same position as I find myself.
Thus, use your influence and get the post office to deliver our accounts and we will gladly pay. I motor into the Service Delivery Centre, ask for a printout and pay. However, just this morning from 10:00, I had to stand in the queue for 35 minutes, asked for a printout and was told that the computer system was “backed up” and could only produce an abbreviated total bill.
This document was quite incorrect because it included a charge of R81 for a final demand for the account only due now. I went back and consulted Martin who said he would try to help. Just then the power failed and we just chatted for 15 minutes until the standby generators came on line. He did manage to get me something a little more lucid, without the final demand charge. When I left, the emergency power was still on and traffic lights all the way up Swartkoppies to Potgieter not operating.
Please, Mr Diamond, don’t forget about the Licensing Office computer saga as well and stop the foot kissing and do something constructive for Alberton.
“Outjie Alberton”.
