ALBERTON – I live in Launceston Road, New Redruth, and on my best night I have perhaps 5 hours sleep, if I am lucky. Lately somebody in a property close to me has bought a very noisy generator which is switched on the minute load shedding commences and is not switched off again until hours after load shedding has stopped. Last night (June 10), we had load shedding from 20:00 to 22:35. The generator stayed on until almost midnight – I was still awake so I know.
Are there any bylaws prohibiting this and, if so, who do we contact in order for them to pay the household a visit to ask them to quieten their generator? Obviously the householders do not give a toss about their neighbours or they would have bought a silent generator and would at least have the decency to get out of bed and turn the thing off when the power returns. Can anybody suggest how we can stop this?
