Alberton players in the Rugby World Cup

Currently, the one talking point in all conversations regarding sport is World Cup Rugby.

JOHANNESBURG – This is no exception when it comes to Alberton rugby fans whose focus is solidly on the 2015 Rugby World Cup which will kick-off on Friday, September 18, when host country England will meet Fiji in the opening game of the ninth World Cup tournament, at 20:00.

With Alberton-born Lood de Jager as a lock for the Springboks, Alberton rugby lovers will be glued to their television sets to watch the Springboks on Saturday, September 19, at 16:45, when they take on Japan at Brighton.

Alberton-born Renaldo Bothma will run-out in the blue jersey for Namibia against reigning world champions, the All Blacks, in their first WC fixture on Thursday, September 24, at the Olympic Stadium in London, at 20:00.

Alberton’s proud winners of Rugby World Cup medals in 1995 and 2007 respectively, Japie Mulder and André Pretorius, both have fond memories of their World Cup experience.

When asked what was the highlight of their illustrious rugby careers, they do not hesitate to say “winning the Rugby World Cup”.

Hopefully, both Lood de Jager, in the no.5 Springbok lock jersey, and Dewald Bothma, in the no.8 Namibian jersey, will have the time of their life in this year’s ultimate rugby showdown.
