Cyclists show their support

The focus will be on encouraging people to become stem cell donors.

THE Sunflower Tour of Light will take place to raise awareness of leukaemia as well as the need for South Africans to join the stem cell registry.

One of the most vital goals of the Sunflower Fund at this stage is to raise awareness among the black community. Of the 67 800 donors on the South African registry, only 5.5 per cent are black, six per cent are coloured and eight per cent are Indian. The focus will be on encouraging people to become stem cell donors. The organisers will be inviting potential donors as well as people who can spread the message.

Cyclist will be starting at Grasmere Plaza on February 26 and arriving in Cape Town on March 4. They will visit cancer patients along the way in an effort to shine some light and give them hope. Leukaemia survivors and stem cell beneficiaries from the Western Cape as well as Sunflower Argus cyclists will be invited to join as the riders ride into Cape Town. The highlight of the tour is a celebration banquet at De Grendel restaurant.
