Metro cop saves man from mob justice
According to Capt Vusi Mhlophe, no case was opened against the three residents brought in by the EMPD officer, due to the fact that the victim of the mob justice did not want to lay charges against them
METRO Police officer, Calvin de Klerk single-handedly saved a self-confessed burglar from possible death at the hands of an angry mob, in Extension 5, Riemvasmaak, on Monday, May 23.
The man was accused of breaking into a house in the area and a crowd was assaulting him. It is is alleged that the man, suffering from severe pain due to the attack, confessed to the burglary.
“When I saw what was happening, I immediately approached the mob and asked them to stop. Some refused and I arrested three people and took them to the police station,” de Klerk said.
According to Capt Vusi Mhlophe, no case was opened against the three residents brought in by the EMPD officer, due to the fact that the victim of the mob justice did not want to lay charges against them.
“The whole mob came to the police station, demanding that we release the three arrested members; after a long discussion with the victim, the residents were released,” said Mhlophe.
