Five drug suspects, including a police officer, arrested

GAUTENG MEC for Community Safety, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, congratulates members of the South African Police Service for the arrest of five suspects on Wednesday, June 7, in De Deur, South of Johannesburg for manufacturing and dealing in drugs.
The five, including a police officer, were arrested after a lengthy undercover operation by members of the Hawks. During the raid, mandrax tablets with an estimated value of R105 million were seized.
The arrests took place in the backdrop of the launch of a social movement against drugs and substance abuse by the Gauteng Premier, David Makhaura in May and the MEC’s round-table discussion on integrity management with law enforcement agencies leadership last week.
“Thorough detective work and determination pays. I commend the police officers who worked around the clock to make a breakthrough in dismantling this syndicate. This demonstrates our unwavering war against the supply of drugs and ensuring that our province is safe and drug free. We need more officers of this calibre in our society.
“However, I am disturbed that one of the suspects arrested is a police officer who is expected to uphold the oath to serve and protect our communities. I urge our community members to work hand in hand with them to root out this heinous crime that is destroying the lives of our youth,” said MEC Nkosi-Malobane.
