EDEN PARK’s 40th birthday as well as June 16 Youth Day celebrations were hosted in Eden Park on June 16 at Opelweg Primary School. The day was filled with fun and cheer. The objective was to entertain and spoil the youth. Guests came from Palm Ridge, Greenfields, Ext. 5 and Tina Sonke, Phase 3. People were bussed in from Reiger Park, Actonville, Delmore Park and Gardens, Geluksdal, Windmill Park, Tsakane and Digatule.

Eden Park’s birthday was celebrated in a wonderful fashion. They were honoured by the presence of the very first inhabitants of Eden Park, Peter and Ellen Hutton, who shared the history when they first set foot to soil and anchored their roots in Eden Park.
They inspired and encouraged the youth to liberate their mindsets and to strive to live successful lives and to refrain from living a life of self-destruction. They also said that youngsters must say no to drugs and substance abuse.
They were part of the very first three families from Digatule who moved to Eden Park on the March 16 in 1976.
The other two families were Johnny (Oom Sweepie) and Kate Thomas. The JD. Thomas hall was named after him. They have since relocated to the Eastern Cape.
Eden Park’s birthday and Youth Day were filled with excitement, including dance competitions between the various areas within Ekurhuleni and a six-a-side soccer tournament which resulted in Riempies Classics being the champions.
Blue Ribbon bakery was also thanked for its sponsorship of 500 loaves of bread.
