Alrode falling apart

Alrode, Alberton's economic hub, seems to be suffering from lack of maintenance and care.

ALRODE, Alberton’s economic hub, is suffering from lack of maintenance and care.

The industrial area is in dire need of some tender loving care, as the roads are not only falling apart, but flooding, and many parts seem to be used (like many places nowadays) as a rubbish dump.

The RECORD visited a few streets in Alrode South after receiving reports of massive amounts of water being wasted, extensive damage to the roads, and large areas being used as rubbish dumps, and we can confirm that there are a lot of problems in the area.

In some parts it is a risk to drive because dams of water have resulted in drivers not being able to see if the roads are damaged. Potholes are being filled with water, and it is a valid fear when looking at the roads’ condition in general.

The RECORD did a story recently about potholes, and one has to question the EMM’s (Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality) comment in this story, with them saying: “We know we have done good work and we will continue to do so”, in light of the fact that these issues have stretched on for years.

We asked the EMM for comment, but they have not replied to any of our requests to comment, other than to ask for reference numbers of the complaints.
