The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality respond to a letter from a resident, complaining about illegal dumping and sewage overflow.

The letter refers to a piece of municipal ground that is being used as a dump and where there is a problem with sewage overflow.

The veld is situated along Jackson Street and can be accessed on the corner of Jackson and Vermooten streets.

“An inspection on site was carried out and it was discovered that most of the waste dumped is building rubble and tar,” says Themba Gadebe, Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson.”

The Waste Management services department has a team responsible for the removal of illegal dumping metro-wide.

A team has been assigned to clean all identified illegal dumping spots, including the spot in question; cleaning is scheduled to commence in the coming week.

The City of Ekurhuleni will also attend to the reported overflowing sewer drain.

”However, the blockage had not been reported to the municipality,” adds Gadebe.
