Business thieves caught in the act

CPS Security urges people to test their alarms regularly.

ON Thursday, August 11 at approximately midnight CPS Security received an alarm activation from a customer in Fifth Avenue at a business premises.

Three cars were dispatched to the address and on their arrival they encountered two males who were busy breaking into the property. The area was immediately surrounded and extra vehicles were called for back-up. One of the suspects was successfully apprehended by two of the reaction officers, Donovan Supra and Jaco Grobbelaar, after the suspect tried to flee on foot and jumped over several walls of nearby properties.

Unfortunately the second suspect managed to escape. On further investigation officers proceeded back to the address and noticed that the suspects had tried to tamper with the client’s outdoor detection system. which set off the alarm.

They also noticed that the suspects had used a large spanner to bend open the premises’ burglar bars.

Alberton SAPS was contacted and a case of business break-in was opened.

“We would like to inform the public that business break-ins are on the rise in the Alberton area and urge them to test their alarms regularly,” said Tyrone van der Merwe, CPS sales manager. He also informed the RECORD that businesses should look at security on their business premises’ roofs as criminals keep using roofs as access points.
