ER24 use Jaws-of-Life to save man

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.

A MAN in his 40s was left critically injured this morning (August 17) after a bakkie and light motor vehicle collided on the Barry Marais Road in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg.

ER24 paramedics, along with another service, arrived on the scene at 06:40 and found one light motor vehicle in the left-hand lane of the road while a small bakkie was found on the side of the road. Both vehicles had sustained a large amount of damage in the collision.

When paramedics inspected the scene, they found a man in his 40s lying trapped inside the bakkie. Rescue services had to use the Jaws-of-Life to free the man in a 20-minute operation.

Once he had been freed, paramedics found that the man had sustained numerous injuries, leaving him in a critical condition. Paramedics immediately began their treatment and initiated numerous advanced life support interventions to stabilise the patient’s vital signs.

Once treated, the patient was transported to Natalspruit Hospital for urgent treatment.

The driver and occupants of the light motor vehicle apparently fled the scene, according to witnesses.
