Council says goodbye to Kaya
The City of Ekurhuleni announces the resignation of its city manager, Khaya Ngema.
THE city manager, Khaya Ngema announced his resignation this week.
Ngema has served the metro since 2009. He is currently assisting the city during this transition period, until his last day on August 31.
After serving a full-term (2011-2016) and an additional two years, Ngema is set to pursue other professional interests.
“The city manager felt that it was time to move on after spending seven years in a robust environment of municipal governance. During this period, he led a team entrusted to turn around and stabilise the municipality,” Ekurhuleni’s head of communications and brand management, Rego Mavimbela, said.
The City of Ekurhuleni would like to express sincere gratitude for Ngema’s dedicated service to the city and its people, and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
Ngema will be remembered for his leadership that saw, among other things, Ekurhuleni turning the tide on wasteful expenditure since 2011.
The city reduced wasteful expenditure from R20.8-million in the 2013/14 financial year to R1.8-m in the last financial year.
Ekurhuleni further reduced its irregular spending from R235-m to R68-m in the last financial year, dropping it by a hefty amount,of R187-m.
The metro received clean audits for two consecutive years, between 2013 and 2015, under Ngema’s leadership.
Ekurhuleni is also in a good place to invest after its recent four-notch upgrade by Moody’s Investors Services. This places the city at an Aaa national rating, the highest possible rating, from the previous A1. It also received a global scale rating of Baa2.
