16:00: Voting for executive mayor underway.
14:30: 224 ballots cast. Speaker election results: Patricia Khumalo from ANC elected as speaker.
14:00: The counting of the ballots begin.
12:45: The EFF raises a concern over alleged irregularities due to uncertainty of one Councillors names during roll call. The council secretary states a list is in order. EFF becomes rowdy and starts causing a scene while the council secretary tries to clarify and continues with her duties. DA representative comments that this is exactly why ID verification is necessary as is outlined in the IEC rules.

09:50: The first council meeting is set to take place at 10:00 since the elections on August 3. The new Mayor for Ekurhuleni will be elected to take over from Cllr Mondli Gungubele. The City Manager will preside over proceedings until the new speaker will be elected. Ekurhuleni is the last Gauteng Metro to have their meeting and will be held at the Germiston Council Chambers, Germiston Civic Center.
